On September 12th, 1940, four teenage boys in southwestern France discovered the Lascaux Cave and its remarkable cave paintings. The nearly 2,000 cave paintings, which were created 20,000 years ago, depict colorful and detailed hunting scenes, primeval cattle, ibexes, deer, and bisons. Although the cave has not been accessible since 1963, the neighboring replica—"Lascaux IV"—is supposed to be in no way inferior to the original.

Today's #IsolationCreations inspiration is Nandi the Bull.
Each of the major Hindu deities is associated with a vahana; a bird or animal on which he or she rides. This sculpture is of Nandi the bull, vahana of the powerful god Shiva. Worshippers arriving at a temple dedicated to Shiva will often encounter a large sculpture, like this one, of the reclining bull gazing devotedly towards the inner shrine, where the image of his master Shiva resides.
Shiva’s association with a bull dates from very early times. The significance of the bull as a symbol of fertility and strength was widespread in India as early as the Indus Valley Civilisation (about 2000 BC), as well as in ancient Egypt, Greece and the Near East.
What are you inspired to draw, paint, write, sing, or create in response to Nandi?

Summer is here and so is festival season! Here, Hindu god Krishna plays the flute in the center of a whimsical celebration known as the Raslila. He has replicated himself to dance with each of the gopis (female cowherds) circling around him. On a night that is said to last a billion years, the gods Indra, Brahma, and Shiva shower the crowd with tiny red and white flowers.
See it on view in “Seeing the Divine: Pahari Painting of North India,” but hurry! The exhibition closes next Sunday, July 21. met.org/SeeingtheDivine

16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

Hoofprint of the Ox

Torero Munera:「
Torero

Eighty years after they were hunted to extinction, the successful reintroduction of a herd of wild European bison onto the dunes of the Dutch coast is paving the way for their return across the continent.

"The Secret Life of Cows" succeeds in showing that animals are thoughtful beings with individual personalities,
At Kite's Nest, the philosophy is different. Calves stay with their mothers "for as long as they choose," suckling freely for nine months at least, and given leeway to decide when and where to move around the farm, as Dolly II was.
The Secret Life of Cows succeeds in showing that cows are thoughtful beings with individual personalities. At times Young's approach is whimsical, perhaps overly so, as when she translates what she takes to be bovine thoughts directly into human language. The cow Black Araminta, a "magnificently capable" animal who doesn't relish human assistance unless it's absolutely needed, is voiced in this way by Young: "Thank you for all you did but from now on, help me only if I ask you to."
